This activity was developed for physicians including Eisenhower medical staff along with nurses and ancillary staff.
At the end of this presentation, participants should be better able to:
- Discuss antimicrobial use is a major factor contributing to the global antimicrobial resistance crisis.
- Discuss infective endocarditis (IE) that occurs in the presence of both damage to endothelial tissue AND bacteremia. Bacteremia does occur in regular activities of daily living.
- Given the uncertainty of benefit of antibiotics for preventing IE, understand current American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines recommend giving antibiotic prophylaxis for dental procedures for patients in the high-risk category for endocarditis.
